I’m so tired of it. I don’t care how big some girl's butt is. I don’t care about socialites or celebrities and their petty twitter wars. As a whole, we've fallen into a pattern of only discussing truly small, trivial, fleeting things. It's mind garbage.
Why not think bigger? We only use a fraction of the mental and physical resources our brains offer; why waste that energy on things so trivial as what the Kardashians are doing? Unless they’re using their wealth to affect positive social change worldwide, then what's motivating us to revolve our lives around it?
There are people that are changing the world with their ideas, their inventions, their lives.
Why aren’t we talking about them? Why do I see a celebrity’s ass in my news feed and nothing about two teenage girls who created a video game that addresses the stigma surrounding periods (read here)? Or the 11-year-old girl that created a no-spill mug for her grandfather with Parkinson's? To quote this child inventor, she said, "Just because you’re a kid, doesn’t mean you can’t do big and great things." That’s huge. These things are newsworthy for SO many reasons.
Let’s not be so shallow as to waste our lives talking and thinking about things like irrelevant beauty standards, celebrity twitter wars, or mindless Facebook arguments.
You have a short time to leave your mark. What are you doing? What are you thinking about? How are you spending your time to let the world know you were here? Who are you allowing to influence your conversations and your time?
We have a responsibility to each other, as people sharing a common humanity, to think a little bigger. The future, for yourself and for those around you, is shaped by what you do today. Right now.
So dwell on things that inspire you. Motivate you. Challenge you. Don’t fall into the trap of mindless thought and conversations that simply numb you to the possibilities of your life and the positive impact you can have.
I started fighting to challenge and find myself but I've been overwhelmed by the number of people that have told me how my journey has inspired and challenged them, in ways I never anticipated. This isn't a post to talk about myself--it's an opportunity to remind you that you can do big, inspiring, life changing things. Because if I can, why not you?
You were created to do big things. So, get off Facebook, and start thinking BIG.
